Regulation of Speech

All the different processes of respiration, phonation, resonation and articulation combine to produce speech which is regulated by the Nervous system. There are many muscles that work in unison to carry out the complex process of speech which ultimately is programmed, sequenced and coordinated by the Cortical areas in the brain.

There are specialized segments in the brain that fulfil the purpose of receiving, organizing, and formulating messages.

The cortex or the outer layer of the brain stores information. The central nervous system is the motor command center. It is the place for originating, planning and carrying out transmission of messages. The command center for integrating language is in the left hemisphere. It also helps in processing of information, detection of, attending to, and patterning of incoming messages
