One Special Woman awards celebrate compassion, commitment, patience, perseverance and farsightedness among women in the disability sector. Women are bringing about a new India with their hard work and tenacity, transforming their lives and the nation’s potential. We salute such women! Come be a part of this journey.

Criteria

These Awards aim to identify women who have exemplary contributions in the field of disability and rehabilitation.

Innovation: The best entries will demonstrate a creative approach to the challenge they tackle and the solution they propose. Their innovative approach is driven by original, groundbreaking ideas or being implemented in a way that will make a new significant difference to the community they are operating in.

Measurable Impact: Entries should explain how their initiative delivers positive social, economic, and/or environmental impact, using both quantitative and qualitative data. They would be tackling a significant sustainability issue and will have the potential of making a big difference by being expanded to new markets, sectors, or geographies. One Special Woman awards

Disclaimer: The decision of the jury in the shortlisting process is final and binding on all participants.

Categories

The Awards aim to identify winners in each of the following categories:

  1. Community Work ( For Professionals) – This category includes professionals like Speech Therapists, Audiologists, Occupational Therapists, Special Educators, Physiotherapists, Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Doctors, Teachers of the deaf, Educators, Social Workers, etc.
  2. Personal Achievement Award – This category is for mothers or caregivers.

*Where a Nominee’s role encompasses more than one of these job functions please enter the Nomination into the category in which the Nomination primarily focuses her work. 

Deadlines

  • The Awards are open for entries from 9.00 am (IST) on 5th Feb 2019.
  • The Deadline to apply for the awards is 9.00 pm ( IST) on 5th March 2019.
  • 1SpecialPlace reserves the right to extend the deadline.

  • This award is open only to women nominees who bear an Indian background and are more than 25 years of age.

Judging Process

  • All entries will be assessed by a shortlisting panel that will create a shortlist of those entries that, in their sole opinion, best represent the categories of work being considered. The Judging panel’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • The judges reserve the right to move Nominations into a different category if they have reasonable grounds to believe that the Nomination would be better placed elsewhere.

Prof. M. Pushpavathi

Director, All India Institute of Speech & Hearing, Mysore, India.

She has over 22 years of experience in the field of Speech, Hearing & Disability. She is a Professor in Speech Language Pathology and has guided various projects and researches under her. Prof. M. Pushpavathi has been a member of Board of Studies and Board of Examiners of several Universities in India. Prof. has been a reviewer of several Journals, has headed various departments and has been the Chairperson of the Unit for Structural Orofacial Anomalies (USOFA). She is a recipient of the prestigious ‘Prof. Rais Ahmed Memorial Award’ instituted by the Acoustical Society of India.

Dr Kushma Deep.

President, AVIKA Care & Heritage Foundation.

Dr. Kushma is the current president of the Avika Care & Heritage Foundation which is an NGO geared towards women empowerment and child care. She has served in the education field for more than 40 years, has judged various events, and has been instrumental in different initiatives for the upliftment of women and downtrodden children.

She won the One Special Woman Award 2018, in the Personal Achievement category.

Smrithy is an inspirational mother of a super talented son, Advaith who is on the Autism Spectrum. She is a devoted and a hard-working mother, an enigmatic and enthusiastic role model for parents and a charming human. She has overcome many hurdles to uplift her son. With her tireless efforts, Advaith has won many state level sports championships and is a budding entrepreneur with his beautiful work in the form of hand made jewellery.

Addu’s Little Creations are not only a reflection of Advaith’s talent but also a mirror of Smrithy’s support and hard work that has gone in making her son what he is today!

Rincy Joseph

Rincy Joseph

She won the One Special Woman Award 2018, in the Community Work category.

Ms Rincy Joseph is the Founder & Chairperson of ALAN T21 Welfare Trust. She is a medical professional, a nurse specialist in Maternal and Fetal- Medicine, a Counsellor and the proud mother of Alan Joseph, a child born with Trisomy 21. She is also the author of a book ‘Life @ 10’.

Ms. Joseph through the mental trauma of negative counseling and the social stigma, initially grieved her son’s condition and the severe drawbacks the disorder brings with it, took an inspiration from all her struggles and decided to put in all her effort to nurture her child.

The positive impact of Alan’s life is the motivation that Ms. Joseph stands out of the crowd to help other children born with the same condition and their families. She says, “Not a single parent should be left helpless who wish to do their best for a child born with Trisomy 21”.

The organisation is sprouted from the vast medical knowledge and life experience of Ms Joseph who ignored every odds and raised her child with Trisomy 21 along with his siblings achieving his best potential at every stage of life.

Winners

  • One winner may be chosen per category, however, in all instances it is permissible to award a prize jointly to two or more entrants in any one category, or to award no prize in a particular category if no entry meets the standard required to win.
  • The winners will win trophies, certificates, gift vouchers and other gifts sponsored by our gifting partners. The prizes are worth INR 10,000.
  • Each winner will be mentioned in a feature to run in Campaign in later March 2019 to celebrate International Women’s Day. Join the event page on Facebook here.
  • Each Winner will also be featured in an interview show by Pro Stories TV, our media partners.
  • Winners will be announced during an online event on our Facebook Page.  (on Friday 9th March 2019). Winners will then be featured on 1SpecialPlace website and other platforms.
  • Entrants and Nominations agree to take part in any publicity relating to the Awards as reasonably required by 1SpeicalPlace and/or Campaign, free of charge.

Intellectual Property and Acknowledgements

  • In submitting an entry, you grant 1SpecialPlace a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty free worldwide licence, with right to sub-license, to use, reproduce, publish (in any media) and amend all intellectual property rights in the entry, including the entire copyright in the entry submission.
  • In respect of any external material included in the entry submission, any permissions required from the copyright owners for the use of their material in connection with the entry to the Awards must be obtained by the Entrant and/or Nomination in writing prior to submission of the entry and must be delivered to 1SpecialPlace on request.
  • The Entrant and/or Nomination warrants to 1SpecialPlace  that the entry is true and accurate and complies with these conditions and further warrants that neither the entry submission nor anything included in it infringes the copyright or any other right of any other party or is in any other way unlawful or injurious.

General

  • One Special Woman awards, 1SpecialPlace reserves the right to refuse entry to, or to disqualify any Nominations from the Awards that are subject to disciplinary sanctions for misconduct, gross misconduct, capability or performance issues.
  • The Entrants and Nominations shall indemnify the 1SpecialPlace  (for itself and for its licensees, successors and assignees) in relation to failure to comply with these conditions. 
  • 1SpecialPlace reserve the right to cancel, amend, terminate or temporarily suspend the Awards at any time with no liability to any entrant or any third party.
  • If for any reason any aspect of the Awards does not function correctly, whether by means of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of 1SpecialPlace, which corrupts or affects the administration, integrity or fairness of the competition, then 1SpecialPlace may at their joint discretion cancel, modify or suspend the awards and/or invalidate affected entries. 
  • If for any reason any aspect of the Awards does not function correctly, whether by means of infection by computer virus, network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures or any cause beyond the control of 1SpecialPlace, which corrupts or affects the administration, integrity or fairness of the competition, then 1SpecialPlace may at their joint discretion cancel, modify or suspend the awards and/or invalidate affected entries. 
  • 1SpecialPlace and its affiliated agencies and companies accept no liability for any loss, expense, or damage incurred or sustained in connection with the Awards (whether or not caused by any person’s negligence), except to the extent that liability cannot be excluded by law, such as death or personal injury caused by negligence, in which case liability shall be limited to the bare minimum permitted by law.
  • One Special Woman awards, If there are reasonable grounds to believe that there has been a breach of these conditions by an Entrant or Nomination, 1SpecialPlace may, at its joint discretion invalidate the relevant entry and disqualify the Nomination from the Awards, irrespective of the stage reached.
